As the use of drones becomes more widespread, it is important for operators to comply with regulations regarding their use. One such regulation is the European Drone Classification System, introduced in 2021 by EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency). This system categorizes drones based on their weight, capabilities, and intended use, and requires operators to obtain certification for certain categories of drones.

What is Class Identification and How to Apply?

One certification that operators may need to obtain is the Class Identification Level (Read EASA Class Guidelines), which varies from drone to drone. In order to comply with the regulation deadlines, DJI Enterprise has established an easy process to obtain the C2 Class Identification Label for the Mavic 3 Enterprise Series and the Matrice 30 Series current users.

If you own one of the following versions:

  • Mavic 3 Enterprise
  • Mavic 3 Thermal
  • Mavic 3 Multispectral
  • Matrice 30
  • Matrice 30T

Follow the steps below to ensure the compliance of your drone:

Step 1 - Firmware Update on the DJI Pilot 2 App

Part of the C2 Compliance requires the drones to be RemoteID-ready. Therefore, the first step of the process is to update your drone firmware to version 7.1 through the DJI Pilot 2 app. If you want to learn more about the new features and upgrades of this version, check the dedicated blog we have prepared here: V7.1: The Biggest Firmware Upgrade for DJI Enterprise Products is here!

Step 2 - Apply for C2 Label through the DJI Pilot App

Once you have updated your firmware, a pop-up will appear on your DJI Pilot 2 home screen leading you directly to the C2 Label Application Page - just tap “Apply”.

If for some reason you can’t complete the process of applying for the C2 at that moment, you can go to the Service and Support section of the DJI Pilot 2 App and continue your C2 Class Identification Label process.

Step 4 - Attach the C2 Labels and Change the Propellers

Labeling your drone is only one part of the compliance process. Mavic Enterprise Series and Matrice 30 Series Drones are also required to change to low-noise propellers to comply with the C2 label regulations.

Please note that the Low Noise Propellers are sold separately, and the user is responsible for purchasing the propellers to comply with the local regulations. You can purchase the propellers through your local dealer or the DJI Store: M30 Series Low-Noise Propellers.

Drone Model Low-Noise Propeller Model
Mavic 3 Enterprise Series 8658F
Matrice 30 Series R1676

We are currently conducting final product testing and verification of the propellers for Mavic 3 Enterprise, Mavic 3 Thermal, and Mavic 3 Multispectral, to ensure product compliance with regulations. Once completed, these propellers will be made available for purchase to enable our customers to continue their operations in compliance with regulations.

Step 5 - Upload Proof of Compliance

After attaching the labels and replacing the propellers, upload a picture of the drone as proof of compliance to your Class Identification Label Application to get your C2 Certificate.

How long does the process take?

One common question regarding the C2 certification process is how long it takes to receive the labels and certificate. The answer may vary, but it's important to plan ahead and allow sufficient time for the process. Remember, the completion of the process will depend on the delivery of the labels as well as the purchase and delivery of your low-noise propellers.

Committed to safer drone operations

Overall, compliance with European drone regulations is essential for the safe and legal operation of drones. The introduction of the European drone classification system and the Class Identification Label process is a positive step towards ensuring that drones are used responsibly and in accordance with regulations.
